A question for my pro-choice friends:
If a pregnant woman is killed, do you charger the killer with one count of homicide or two? What if the mother is not killed, but the unborn baby is? Assault or assault and murder? I’m totally pro-choice, btw. Just want to hear your opinion.

ryannacsavonne answered:
it depends upon the time. if a woman is pregnant for a week I’m pretty sure that the killer is not charged for both counts of murder.

What interests me about this (common) question is the assumption that no one’s getting a maximum sentence for ‘just’ killing a grown woman.

I guess both. I’d imagine. Why is this related to women’s rights? Unless she asked to be attacked?

Doesn’t it come down to the word ‘choice’? You wouldn’t choose to have your baby killed by an attacker..Maybe I’ve missed the point because we don’t have this debate here, but choosing to have an abortion isn’t related to losing a baby in my eyes
-
sallehbear answered:
I don’t agree with abortion after whenever it is that a baby could survive outside the womb. So the same point for determining 2 counts or 1.

Assault (if the mother isn’t killed) with a little extra thrown in.
-
theanti-theist answered:
one count. the only thing you’re killing is the mother’s hopes. if that were against the law, denying her abortion should be too.
-
answertolife42 answered:
if you are pro choice and you dont consider abortion murder then just one count or assault, not really anything more

I guess in my opinion it would really matter how far along the child is..but I’m pretty sure the law counts it as murdering the child too.

That would depend on 1. If she wanted to terminate the pregnancy, and 2. how far along she was.

Tough one. Mother’s body, mother’s choice whether to count as one or two. If the mother is killed, then the father chooses? Interesting.

I believe the law determines the charges based on whether or not the fetus could have lived outside the womb.

I honestly have no opinion on tw matter but I know in quite a few cases they have been charged with murder or man slaughter depending on the situation. I’m pro-choice, but I think it’s more of a situational thing. Abortion shouldn’t be a form of birth control.

Why is this for pro-choicers? Shouldn’t you be asking everyone this? I’m confused. Assault and murder. No one kills my baby but me.
