The Companion Cube’s RETRO CLASSICS - No. 19
Yoshi’s Safari - Nintendo - - Super Nintendo
Yoshi’s Safari is known in Japan as Yoshi’s Road Hunting. This game makes use of the two greatest technological advancements in video game history: the Super Scope 6 and Mode 7 graphics. The premise is that Mario and Yoshi have to save King Fret and his son Prince Pine of Jewellery Land from Bowser and his Koopalings.
The game is played from the perspective of Mario, riding on Yoshi’s back. Yoshi’s head is always visible, and accidentally (intentionally) shooting at him in the back of the head causes a loss of health and he’ll turn to give the player a dirty look.
This is also the first North American game to have Peach referred to by that name.
This game is straight up fucking awesome! So much fun and easily the best game on the Super Scope.
